MCP implements cutting-edge teaching strategies and incorporates innovative digital technology in the classroom to help all types of learners be successful.

Universal Design for Learning

UDL provides a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone–not a single, one-size-fits-all solution but rather flexible approaches that can be customized and adjusted for individual needs. Using UDL allows our teachers to present information and content in different ways, differentiate the ways that students can express what they know and stimulate interest and motivation for learning.

Laptops, Projectors, Speakers

Every classroom at MCP is equipped with a set of laptop computers for students to use. Each set includes computers with Dragon, Kurzweil and Ghotit (explained below) loaded on to them, so that students can access them at any time during any class. There will also be “Dragon Dens”, quiet spaces for students to use the program outside of class.

Adaptive and Assistive Technology

Thanks to grants from Yahoo and The Nicholson Foundation, MCP is able to offer access to several adaptive technologies that will greatly assist your children in completing their work.

Dragon Naturally Speaking – This speech-to-text software will allow your child to dictate their ideas out loud and have them appear in a document. Students with certain learning disabilities, especially those with language-based learning disabilities like dyslexia and working memory issues, use Dragon to help them with writing by taking the focus off the mechanics of composition—spelling, sentence structure, etc.—so it’s easier to transfer ideas into written words.

Ghotit – This dyslexic-writing-translation software will take any text typed in to Microsoft word and read it back to the writer, identifying any words that are misspelled or used out of context, and using word-prediction technology to provide a selection of more appropriate words, with associated definitions and context. Ghotit offers a high performance spell check and grammar check service, enabling people with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and NLD to dramatically improve and gain confidence in their writing.

Kurzweil – This program will allow your child to scan any text for any class and have the computer read it to them. Kurzweil will also read text aloud from any website, and will define words that are unfamiliar.

Experiential Learning Programs

MCP encourages students to take information taught in class and extend it further through Experiential Learning Projects. Every Friday, classes are given 2 hour blocks during which students can engage in labs, test preparation or review, and activities that show how concepts taught in class apply to the real world

 Life and Business Skills

Classes at MCP incorporate Life and Business skills including Money Management, Cooking, Health and Nutrition, Business Writing, and College Preparation.
